Nursing Care Model
Nursing care is delivered using different healthcare models, nursing care models are strategies used in delivering effective nursing services. These models vary based on the type of health care setting and patient needs. Nursing care models are the framework that guides nursing practice and nursing education (Finkelman, 2016). Furthermore, the care models used within the nursing practice help in organizing care services for patients. A nursing care model is a reflection of the philosophical foundation of patient care and also reflects the culture of an organization (Finkelman, 2016).
Patient-Centered Nursing Model
Nursing care is offered based on the changing circumstance and needs of different patients. The current patient care has greatly shifted from individual care to more of family care. This is what I witnessed during my recent visit in one of the healthcare facility within my neighborhood. I observed that the health facility uses a patient-centered nursing model, whereby nurses within the facility are very friendly, nurses in this facility spent time making inquiries from patients on their treatment preferences.
With the shifting care needs, nurses roles have also shifted, nurses do not just provide care services; they also empower patients to make informed decisions. Patients have the right to choose the type of care they would prefer based on the available options, this is more of a holistic approach. Holistic nursing practice focus on healing a whole person, this process addresses some of the interconnected issues of the mind, spirit, body, emotions, environment, relationships and context (Finkelman, 2016). Nurses in the facility I observed combined all these elements, I concluded that the nurses at the facility were competent and upheld their professional values since they were using a patient-centered care model.
