Diabetes mellitus is a genetically inherited disease which affects all the genders and races. It involves the inability of the human body to regulate blood sugar. It results from mutations of the genes involved in the development of the human immune system. These genes guide the replication of white blood cell. Abnormality of the genes results in the production of defective immune cells that destroy the pancreatic cells, or rendering the body cells unable to respond to insulin (Lucaccioni, &Iughetti, 2016).
The Multifactorial Causes of Type1 Diabetes Mellitus
It is caused by other autoimmune conditions such as Addison disorder and manifold sclerosis. In addition, infection by Enteroviruses increases the risk of becoming diabetic. The individuals with a family history of the condition are at high risk of being diabetic. Preeclampsia in mothers, and jaundice in newborns are other multifactorial causes of type1 diabetes (Lucaccioni, &Iughetti, 2016).
