Obesity in Children and Teenagers Obesity in children and teenagers is a major medical problem that impacts the lives of these age groups. It is especially concerning since the additional weight typically puts youngsters on a road that leads to health issues traditionally regarded as adult concerns, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. This is a problem because it often starts in childhood. Obesity in children has been linked to lower levels of self-esteem as well as sadness. Improving the food and exercise routines of the whole family is one of the most effective ways to lower the prevalence of obesity in children. Your child's health may be protected now and, in the future, if you take steps to treat and prevent obesity in children.
The social-ecological model is the ecological model framework (SEM) that I think will assist in minimizing childhood obesity and acting against it. The social-ecological model (SEM) is a conceptual framework that describes how human and environmental variables interact to drive behavior (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2020). In the study of treatments for childhood obesity, the SEM was used to investigate these interventions and find the components at each level that affect behaviors.
Researchers have focused their attention on the precise factors that make up each layer of the model in order to better understand the influence of different features of the SEM on children's weight status. There are several factors that influence children's weight status, including their age, ethnicity, and gender as well as the weight status of their parents; the features of their families; and their parents' education level (Jernigan et al., 2018). Community-level factors such as the availability of varied food outlets and physical activity (PA) facilities have given conflicting results.
Health habits are influenced by a variety of programs and activities, and these programs and activities interact with one another. Comprehensive public health methods, such as those aimed at combating childhood obesity, increasingly make use of these models (Jernigan et al., 2018).
