CVD is a critical health challenge in the world today. According to Lanuza, Davidson, Dunbar, Hughes, and De Geest (2011), nurses can play a central role in reducing the CVD burden and in improving outcomes in communities as well as individuals. In her article, Kunaviktikul (2014) recognizes that the involvement of nurses in health policy development is low despite comprising the majority of healthcare personnel. As such, there is a need for more involvement of nurses in the development of policy related to CVD, particularly because it is the leading cause of death globally.
Nurses need to learn the process involved in the development of healthcare policy. According to Kunaviktikul (2014), institutions of learning should educate students at all levels on the significance of participation in the development of policy as an avenue for expressing their abilities, thoughts, and practice. Therefore, for nurses to be broadly involved in the development of policy related to CVD, they have first to learn the process of policy formulation. They can thus explore resources related to policy development.
