The Nurse Manager Skills Inventory is an important tool to the nursing profession. This owes to the reality that it enables professionals in the industry to reflect on how nurses’ personal abilities can benefit their careers (Wittmann-Price and Cornelius, 2013).. It also enables nurses to identify their strengths and weaknesses, plan their careers, influence their personal journey disciplines, personal, and professional accountability. As a result, the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory enables nurses to advocate for change in the work place, identify personal goals for leadership growth, and prepare implementation plans for their goals. Clearly, the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory aids in molding leaders in the nursing profession by equipping them with necessary skills in the industry. This paper uses the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory to discuss my strengths and weaknesses by focusing on my career plan, personal journey, reflective practice, professional, and personal accountability.
Personal and professional accountability is an important aspect in managing nurses. Thus, According to the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory (2008), nurse managers must be accountable for staff job satisfaction by providing cohesive work groups. This complements my personal and professional accountability because I can be identified as competent. This owes to the reality that apart from being responsible, I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Nonetheless, I have a weakness in terms of professional accountability owing to the lack of adequate experience in practicing nursing. However, I intend to solve this problem by completing my studies in addition to seeking a nursing internship. Additionally, I also intend to continue updating my knowledge in the industry after completing my studies because I will be able to apply evidence-based practice in the field. As a result, I will ensure that my patients receive the updated services because depending on knowledge earned in class is not enough.
Career planning enables nurses to understand their roles in the society hence, prepare adequately for their profession (Bateman, 2012). I understand that nurses have responsibilities such as taking physical tests and recording health histories, providing counseling, and conduct research. I can perform the three latter responsibilities easily, but I will have to improve on my research skills. Obtaining basic nurse certifications is an essential element to practice nursing. This owes to the fact that that healthcare regulations require nurses to acquire licenses of operation by taking tests and gaining certificates.
