This kind of practice can also be called traditional healthcare practices due to its long history of use. Broadly, traditional healthcare practices can be termed as the practices and skills based on beliefs, theories, and experiences used by various cultures in disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Though this kind of medicine has been practiced for centuries, its use is being challenged by a new practice, non-traditional health care practices. In simple terms, non-traditional health care is the medical practices that do not fall within the traditional Western medical practices. Alternatively, it is referred to as alternative or Naturopathic medicine. The use of non-traditional medical approaches has seen a significant rise in the recent past. This paper seeks to explore the various non-traditional health care practices in various cultures, the reasons for the rise in popularity of the approaches, as well as their effect on wellness and prevention of disease.
