Negotiation refers to a patient-centered approach where the client and health care professionals engage in a discussion to reach a mutual agreement regarding the patient's treatment. Negotiation enables doctors and patients to engage in the patients' education, including the patient's lifestyle, personal plans, and treatment strategies (YE, 2020, p. 63). It helps doctors eliminate patients' misconceptions regarding particular treatments.
Question 2
Over the years, patients' status has changed because as people age, they understand the importance of living a healthy lifestyle to avoid sicknesses. Also, in today's world, patients can research the internet information regarding their health issues (YE, 2020, p. 67). The increased patient awareness has led to improved health as a health care professional can negotiate health care plans and healthy lifestyles through the internet.

Some benefits of negotiation include improving working relationships between the patient and health care professionals due to mutual understanding. It also allows flexibility in decision-making hence reducing risks (YE, 2020, p. 78). Cons of negotiating include that nurses cannot rely on what a patient says to be accurate. The nurses are also not assured that the patients would genuinely stick to the plan.
