The purpose of this assignment is to identify nursing care models utilized in today’s various health care settings and enhance your knowledge of how models impact the management of care and may influence delegation. You will assess the effectiveness of models and determine how you would collaborate with a nurse leader to identify opportunities for improvement to ensure quality, safety and staff satisfaction.

Introduction
Nursing care can be achieved through a range of organizational means. The models of care that are used vary widely across health care facilities as well as from one patient to the other. There are three models of nursing are namely team nursing, primary nursing, and progressive patient care. The use of these models depends on the patient being attended to as well as the type of management that the hospital has. Knowing the right nursing care model to use can lead to better patient outcomes and consequently reduced hospital stay. This research paper discusses how the progressive patient care (PPC) can be applied in health care.
Discussion Scenario
The case scenario that is discussed in this research paper involves the nursing staff at the Boehme Nursing Home. The nurses in this facility who were attending to patients who needed constant care would move patients that were admitted near the nurses’ station in order to create a new r9oom where patients that needed a 24 hour monitoring would be examined by the nurses around the clock. This was done for all the patients irrespective of their gender or type of sickness. This was also important as it helped in ensuring that there was no possibility of the patient’s condition deteriorating due to the lack of constant care as there was always a nurse on standby to check on the patient. This model was identified for discussion as it can bring about better patient outcomes in cases such as post-surgery or accident cases.
The Progressive Patient Care Model
The use of progressive patient care entails the placement of patients in units based on their needs for care as guided by the level of illness instead of placing patients based on medical specialty. In this model of care, the nurse leader organizes patients depending on how sick they are. Unlike other models where patients are grouped according to their sex or disease, the progressive model of care places patients in clusters of how they are dependent on the nurse. This means that the hospital facilities should be organized in such a manner to meet the personal needs of the patient being attended to. This is quite important as it ensures that each patient is within the proximity of the necessary resources unlike in other models of care (Finkelman, 2012).
Implementation of the Progressive Patient Care Model
Ideally, the progressive patient care should utilize various intensive care units and self care units to take care of patients. The intensive care units are meant for people who are critically ill irrespective of the disease that they have been diagnosed with. These units are occupied by patients that require constant nursing care that they would not most likely get if they are assigned into the general wards. This is quite important as the current nurse shortage has created a scenario where most patients in need of progressive care fail to get it and at times this can be tragic.
