Myocardial Infarction (MI) is a type of ichemic heart disease that is linked to the deterioration and obstruction of the heart arteries of the (coronary arteriosclerosis). It occurs due to the accumulation of cholesterol plaques, lipids (fats) and inflammatory cells in the walls of the coronary arteries, causing the heart not to receive enough blood. Quantitative researchers collect information in numeric form, while qualitative researchers focus on narrative descriptions. The first article is by Berg, et al (2017), who evaluated sex differences in survival after acute myocardial infarction (AMI), in Sweden. The second article is by Petriček, Buljan, Prljević, Owens & Vrcić-Keglević (2014) and focused on patient experience in the diagnosis of myocardial infarction. The essay contrasts the two articles, general advantages and disadvantages of the two research approaches and responds to the claim that qualitative research is not real science.
