Nursing Shortage Name: Institution: Nursing Shortage Introduction             Nursing shortage refers to a situation where the demand for the nursing professionals has surpassed the available supply. The demand within a health facility can exceed at the local, national and global level. Registered Nurses are an example of the nursing professionals. The nursing shortage can be measured when the number of job openings available is past the jobs that are currently available. Nursing shortage is mostly experienced in the developing nations. It does not necessarily mean that nursing shortage occurs only when there are fewer trained nurses. Increased rates of admission into nursing schools can also cause the nursing shortage. Also, when the newly trained nurses are not properly placed, the above problem can occur. The essay analyzes a literature review on how current research supports the PICOT in addition to identifying the missing factors in the research on nursing shortage. A Comparison of Research Questions People carry out researches with different aims. The authors of the article ‘Shift work and burnout among health care workers’ aimed at identifying and describing how the health workers who work on shifts are usually associated with burnout (Wisetborisut, et al. 2014). The other article named ‘Association of 12 h shifts and nurses’ job satisfaction, burnout and intention to leave: findings from a cross-sectional study of 12 European countries’ carried out research with the aim of examining the connection between working long shifts and experiencing burnouts (Dall'Ora1, et al. 2015). Also, the dissatisfaction with the work schedule in addition to job dissatisfaction that can lead to nurses leaving their jobs was also looked at. Analysis of the length of the shifts the hospital workers took and the way the shifts were scheduled was the research question in the article titled ‘Hospital Staff Nurses’ Shift Length Associated with Safety and Quality of Care’. The forth article was mainly concerned with evaluating the burn out levels among nurses. The article by the name ‘Risk factors and prevalence of burnout syndrome in the nursing profession’ also aimed at identifying the factors that relate to the burnout and laid out a plan to prevent and reduce the effects of burnout syndrome. A Comparison of Sample Populations There were different methods used in the four articles. The first article on Shift work and burnout among health care workers carried out a study concerning the health workers at a hospital in Thailand. The method used was quantitative and the data was collected through an online questionnaire that included shift work out and burn out. The second article ‘Association of 12 h shifts and nurses’ job satisfaction, burnout and intention to leave: findings from a cross-sectional study of 12 European countries’ carried out a survey of about 31, 627 nurses registered in the about 2170 hospitals (Cañadas-De la Fuente, et al. 2014).
