Perimenopause is the period during which women body makes natural transition to menopause that results to symptoms including hot flashes, mood swings, and night sweats caused by normal hormonal fluctuations. Hormone therapy is the most effective medication for treating and reducing Perimenopause symptoms, such as mood swings, night sweats, and hot flashes. Furthermore, it helps to reduce risk of developing osteoporosis and bone breakage. However, hormone therapy is associated with the risk of breast cancer, stroke, and an increase of blood clots in veins. Since each woman is unique, it is difficult to weigh the benefits and risks of hormone therapy among women. However, research notes that hormone therapy risks are lower in younger women below 50 years. Furthermore, research suggest that hormone therapy lower risks of diseases including colon cancer and diabetes among women (Association of Women Health, 2016).
