Leadership involves the incorporation of diverse ideologies and the inclusiveness in the making of decisions and taking actions. The notion that born leaders are better than made leaders is correct to some extent, as this majorly is dependent on the personality of the individual considered in the leadership role or position. Transformative leadership is focused on creating an inspirational vision for the future, motivating and inspiring the people to engage in the vision and team building and incorporation of other individuals in achieving the vision. Leadership is dependent on the personality of a person, gender or age, environment and exposure. These factors play significant roles and influence in the development, growth and shaping of an individual’s leadership skills and tactics.
An effective leader must have a clear and well thought-through ideology, opinions and the course of action. The vision must incorporate the business or organizational goals and objectives with a specific and realistic time frame (Bolman & Deal, 2014). The vision provides a pathway towards meeting the organizational objectives. In the formulation of the vision, it is incumbent to involve all the stakeholders in the business to ensure maximum cooperation, acceptance and favorable market returns on the investment. The employees, who form an integral part of the business, must be involved inclusively in the formulation of business strategies, implementation and the effective communication. An organization that gives a lot of priorities to the employees transforms the reputation and the overall output in the business. A motivated employee is a worthwhile investment. As a visionary leader, it is incumbent upon me to inclusively and extensively involve all the stakeholders within the business, and have an active feedback mechanism to timely address the issues and concerns limiting maximum output and profitability (Bolman & Deal, 2014). Issues regarding institutional discrimination would be met with great detest, ensuring that the guiding principles and equity are maintained within the business. Equal opportunities and benefits must be available to all the employees irrespective of age, race, religion or sex.
The personality of an individual plays the most significant role in the leadership style and approach they adopt. As a leader, my personality plays a major role in my leadership position and responsibilities. The personality of a leader can be the make or break of an individual’s leadership career. Character provides the original drive and tendency of behavior when faced with different challenges and opportunities. Although it may be difficult to change an individual’s personality, it is possible for people to learn and adapt to their personality. The character of a leader has a direct and substantial impact on his followers. Therefore, effective leaders have personality traits like dependability, agreeableness, surgency, conscientiousness, extraversion, openness, and emotional stability.
