Leadership Culture in Health Care Provision
Leadership culture is a term made up of two words that possess an excellent depth of meaning. Leadership refers to the act of motivating a group of individuals to work toward a common objective. On the other hand, culture can refer to the values, beliefs, and norms of a people, organization, or community. Therefore, leadership culture in health care refers to the manner/way in which objectives are met, and individuals interact at different levels in the provision of health care services. The meaning extends to the means and undertakings that precede decision making and how such influence spread through an organization. In healthcare, leadership culture must be inculcated by those responsible for the running of different facilities with themselves acting as best examples (West, Amit, Eckert, West & Lee, 2015). The building blocks that form leadership culture are organizational practices. The second condition is the existence of opportunities to learn, such as mentoring and coaching, conference hall training, or international and local exchange programs. In addition to the opportunity to learn, the managers must ensure that they put rewards systems that reward learning. Such rewards would act as incentives towards self-improvement and personal development. Thirdly, leadership culture requires a safe space for risk-taking and failure. The conditions need to be in such a way that leaders and other health workers can take risks with the possibility of failing without fearing that they would be scolded and victimized for it. Ubiquity to exemplary leadership is needed for leadership culture to develop (Emerald Insight, 2013). People become the leaders they observe; hence there is a great need to have experienced leaders with great expertise at the health care provision centers to act as examples. With the conditions mentioned above, a leadership culture is deeply rooted and sustainable.
Leadership culture provides for senior managers support methods and a learning environment. Such improvements have recorded positive cultural changes that tran...
