Commitment is a critical element underlying success in many disciplines, including healthcare, sports, and business, amongst many more! A commitment strategy is a promise or mission statement defining the reinforced implementation of specific core techniques, methods, and strategies to achieve specific goals or objectives. This paper illuminates commitment strategy as one of the elements of achieving success in practicing Yo-yo dieting. Yo-yo dieting refers to weight cycling, which encompasses gaining weight unintentionally, then dieting in response, and regaining that weight once again.
Obesity and overweight constitute some significant challenges in healthcare. People are finding it challenging to identify and adopt evidence-based practices to ensure appropriate maintenance of healthy weight. Yo-yo dieting is considered one of the unhealthy ways of responding to weight concerns. The most effective and recommended intervention to prevent or control obesity involves modifying habits, such as decreasing calorie intake and increasing physical activity. The challenges in adherence to such recommendations often lead to lifelong periodic energy-restriction cycles associated with repeated loss and regain of body weight, accompanied by body mass index changes (BMI).
