Interview of a Nurse Practitioner Introduction The nursing profession is a broad field with various subdivisions of specialties. Therefore, as conceptualized by Polit and Beck (2004), I conducted this qualitative interview analysis to gain insight into the path one takes to become a professional nurse. The interviewee is a female nurse practitioner whose specialty is geriatric nursing. Her background included working as a supervisor in long-term care facilities and an emergency department nurse for over ten years before becoming a nurse practitioner. The interview took place within the hospital setting. Upon commencing it, the initial reaction or thought process involved focusing on the mistakes taken throughout her journey and applying the counsel towards my path to avoid missteps that would hinder or delay my goal. The Interview While responding to the diverse questions, the interviewee indicated that she chose a nursing career because she “always had a passion for serving the population as a healthcare worker.” She emphasized that she “always wanted to help the sick by taking care of them while at the same time being an advocate of the needy in society.” As a result, she decided to pursue a highly demanded program, a bachelor’s degree focusing on geriatric nursing. Her responses indicate that she understands the healthcare needs of the elderly population and the shortages of nurses in the country. The respondent provided critical clarifications about nursing care and caring when progressing with the interview. Continued interaction also uncovered interesting ethical dilemmas the interviewee had encountered and the process of dealing with such scenarios. Other than these aspects, she provided insights about interactions with technologies by indicating that “they had to undergo some training to facilitate the effective use of the technology to achieve the desired outcomes.” Overall, the interaction with the interviewee was seamless....
