A baccalaureate degree is simply the bachelors’ degree that is conferred by registered colleges and universities. Education has been used as the measure of excellence, and capacity in other fields and the medical field is not any different. Through one’s education, useful as well as skillful information is acquired and this helps one to compete favorably within their field, and the recommendation at hand only seeks to draw out competence and greater responsibility among nurses. First of all, I believe that by 2020, I will be among the 80% with a baccalaureate degree. As per my school schedule, our class will be conferred with bachelor’s degrees in 2017, and this means that I will have satisfied this particular recommendation and adequately fit into this particular IOM recommendation. The nursing degree will prove that I have been tried and tested to the best of my abilities for that given level. 2. Recommendation 5: Double the number of nurses with a doctorate by 2020. Arguably, nursing is among the busiest professions in the world, and thus time is one of the rarest commodities. However, despite the above, some registered nurses have been able to advance their studies and attain a doctorate. According to the University Of North Carolina School Of Nursing or UNCSN (2016), a doctorate prepares nurses for the highest level of professional nursing practice.” A doctorate is best suited for people who dream of taking managerial roles in nursing and will propel one’s career further. According to UNCSN (2016), a doctorate takes three years of full-time study ranging from 66 to 75 credit hours,” however, this is dependent on the student’s area of advanced study.
