Increased Competencies of Nurses to Match the Increasing Complexity in the Patient Needs

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) launched an initiative with the goal of coming up with ways to tackle the challenges experienced in the nursing field. Through the Future of Nursing, IOM worked on producing a document, a blueprint, which would charter the way for the nursing profession into the future. It looked at some of the main challenges facing the nurses and those individuals who were pursuing nursing as a career, and then looked at some of the solutions that would be effective in addressing these challenges. Among its recommendations was that nurses need to achieve high education levels which would be continuous throughout their lives, increased number of graduate nurses by 2020, and double the number of doctorate nurses by the same year. From a personal point of view, I find these recommendations quite good and applicable to me, as I will greatly benefit from them in a number of ways.
How will increasing your level of education affect how you compete in the current job market?
The IOM recommendation basically focuses on increases the proportion of graduate nurses by over 80% by the turn of the year 2020(Eisler et.al, 2014). From a personal perspective, I see myself fitting perfectly in that ,due to the fact that I will be way done present, I am striving so h with my undergraduate degree before then. As for the moment, I am striving so hard to acquire the required skills needed to be ready for the near future, which is bound to be very competitive. I believe that acquisition of knowledge and skills will catapult me into fully competent professional, who can deliver quality services efficiently and effectively.
