Intervention to Improve Quality Care in Stroke PatientsNameInstitutional AffiliationDate
Background of the Issue
Stroke is one the leading causes of disability among patients in the United States. In most cases when the patients have had a stroke they will be left with a functional impairment or a severe disability that can affect their lives in different ways. In the world, there are 4.8 million stroke survivors and about 1.1 million suffer lasting functional disabilities CITATION Han18 \l 1033 (Hande & Ozgur, 2018). There are various recovery and rehabilitation procedures that have been put in place to make sure that the patients have recovered after they have had a stroke. As seen the severity of a stroke and its complications will play a role in determining the amount of time that the person will take to recover from the stroke. Stroke rehabilitation can help one to gain their independence and improve their quality of life.
Research has also shown that patients who spend their time in the various rehabilitation programs have a higher probability of recovering fast than those who do not spend their time in the rehabilitation CITATION Ste102 \l 1033 (Stewart, Cauraugh, & Summers, 2010). During this time, the patients are taken through various rehabilitation programs. One of the commonest means of rehabilitation is through exercises. Patients can go through the exercises as a way of preventing the recurrence of stroke, manage comorbidities and avoid other related complication. Evidence shows that the patients can do better with an organized recovery approach that is done by the guidance of a trainer CITATION Jon18 \l 1033 (Jonas, Joaquin, Markus, Emil, & Jorgen, 2018).
Quality Care Problem
However, there are challenges that are associated with the measure such as the patients can spend so much time when they’re going through the recovery. The patients spend so much of their time in the recovery phase since the intensity of the exercises is lower and this leads to congestion in the rehabilitation centers. In addition, the patients may fail to recover fully and this will affect their life thereafter CITATION Nat18 \l 1033 (Nathoo, Buren, & El-Haddad, 2018). The nurses on their side will not have adequate time to be with each of the patients and provide them with maximum care since the number of the patients in the rehabilitation is high. This also affects the quality of the healthcare services that the patients receive in the facilities.
Recommendation
1 Increasing the intensity of training known as high intensity interval training (HIIT) will play a great role in the recovery of the patients who are affected by stroke. For instance, if patients go for one session of exercise, then increasing the sessions to two will help patient to recover faster.
2 Each of the trainers should have adequate time with each of the patients so that they makes sure that the patients have done what is exactly required. In addition, they can offer suggestions on improvement.
3 Nurses should have adequate time with each of the patients to increase the quality of healthcare.
Discussion
Various studies have shown that engaging in cardiovascu...
