Chieng, Chan & Klainin‐Yobas (2014), used the quantitative systematic review and the studies identified were chosen if they were published in English had a good methodological quality. The quantitative approach to the systematic review was appropriate as there were no studies that focus on whether there was a link between perioperative anxiety and pain among children. The choice of the study design is consistent with the need of synthesizing the empirical evidence.
