Interviewing a Nutritionist
I was able to secure an interview with a nutritionist named Ann Morgan who answered me all the questions I asked her. According to Ann, the role of a nutritionist as a health care team member is undertaking a preventative role that involves working on both one-to-one and a group basis with patients. Nutritionists' roles differ from dieticians in that nutritionists work mostly with healthy people while dieticians predominantly work with those who are ill. Nutritionists have expertise in many health care settings including public health nutrition, tertiary educative related nutrition and community health. Their role involves evaluating and implementing a range of population health interventions to improve the health of individuals, communities and the population through better nutrition (Papadakis et al., 2005).
Professionalism is the habitual and thoughtful use of knowledge, communication, technical skills, emotions, values, clinical reasoning and reflection in daily healthcare practice for the benefit of the individual and people being served. Professionalism being the basis of patient-physician trust influences my work by guiding me in making good decisions for our patients.
