Nurses have the responsibility to empower and support their patient's decision-making process to improve the quality of care. The best strategies to facilitate the process, the NDNQI data from dashboards, my institution empowerments, and exemplary personal empowerments should be discussed.
Nurses need to apply the best strategies to empower and support patients to improve the quality of services. First, they need to provide information on the effectiveness of the treatments and medications. This information will enable patients to make a conscious decision before receiving the care. Second, the risks involved with the type of care, such as side effects, should be explained before treatment. Lastly, while discussing the primary treatment merits and demerits, the patient needs to be informed of alternative treatments. Presenting multiple options to the patients will provide a preferred treatment procedure (Trus et al., 2019). These strategies will empower patients to make informed decisions while receiving medical care.
