Re:Topic 5 DQ 1
It is important to incorporate a change theory when implementing evidence based practice to reduce the amount of skepticism during integration. Simply educating people is not enough to encourage change. The evidence must be strong enough to overcome intellectual challenge and workers must be receptive. The stakeholders must start to feel uncomfortable with the current situation and become excited about the future. Skepticism must be overcome and ample time allowed for change. Continued communication and support bust be available (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2015).
The benefits of incorporating a change theory do outweigh the time and effort to include it. Without it, the likelihood of practice staying the same is great. There are many barriers and sceptics that need to be overcome. Change does not always occur in a linear fashion, and having a plan can assist with implementation. The needs of the group must be assessed, a plan put in place that includes the likelihood of success. Implementation of the plan occurs with evaluation along the way. Even with a good plan stakeholder needs can create diversions and plans can be revised (Harris, Garrubba, Allen, King, Kelly, Thiagarajan, & …Farjou, 2015).
