Quite often, nurse leaders are faced with ethical dilemmas, such as those associated with choices between competing needs and limited resources. Resources are finite, and competition for those resources occurs daily in all organizations.
For example, the use of 12-hour shifts has been a strategy to retain nurses. However, evidence suggests that as nurses work more hours in a shift, they commit more errors. How do effective leaders find a balance between the needs of the organization and the needs of ensuring quality, effective, and safe patient care?

Technological interruption in the healthcare sector results in both positive and negative impacts. Given the current advancements in technology, then health centers will be left with no option other than adapting to technological changes. Evidence-based research indicates that the augmentation or replacement of drugs with better technological treatment methods has proved to be more effective as compared to the replaced drugs. Therefore, the competing needs of resources, workforce, and patients may have an impact on the capability of implementing the necessary technological changes.
The new technology changes require healthcare centers to spent resources in the purchase of certain equipment which aid in the quick recovery of patients. Such equipment might turn out to be costly hence making it difficult for the hospitals to implement them (Kelly & Porr, 2018). For instance, a few hospitals have the necessary equipment to carry out MRI scans due to the cost of purchasing and maintaining the equipment. In addition, the cost associated with the training of some physician regarding the use of particular equipment might also impact the implementation of the policy. The equipment is equally necessary to aid in the provision of quality healthcare (Milliken, 2018). Physicians will need to have adequate knowledge on how to use the various equipment in order to avoid cases of medication errors. Therefore, the health centers will have to cater for the resources necessary in the training of their workforce and purchasing new equipment.
In addition, some of the physicians might lack sufficient knowledge required to operate some of the current technological equipment. As a result, this would bring a challenge in the capability of health centers to implement such equipment. For i...
