The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season has been a catastrophic and hyperactive hurricane season of all time. It featured over 15 storms and a total of 16 disastrous hurricanes, ranking it the fifth most dangerous hurricane season since 1851. All of the hurricanes took place in a row and took the lives of various innocent people within a matter of minutes. It is the only hurricane season on records in which three consecutive hurricanes hit Jose, Maria, and Irma (2018).
Various ways of public health response were used in this situation. For instance, the President approved a number of emergency disaster declarations and took to social media to create awareness among people regarding the issue. All disaster relief efforts were supervised by the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Centers for Disease Control. The main responsibilities of CDS were providing people with timely healthcare facilities and shelter. The organization also organized a number of events and helped state, tribal, territorial and local partners strengthen their respective public health preparedness systems to an extent (Collett, McDougall, & Thomas, 2017).
For hundreds to thousands of people traveling through Harvey's flood water to Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center, different public health issues were originated naturally. First of all, safety was not at hand, and secondly, many of them fell ill due to the unhygienic environment. It should be noticed that all flood disasters are public-health disasters too, and as Harvey dissipated over the Gulf Coast, the beginning of the calamity was on display in Houston and its surrounding areas (Leiren, 2017).
