Healthcare professionals have a duty of ascertaining that patients receive the best care. It follows that such professionals must not only take care of patients, but they should also provide conditions that promote the healing of patients. This reveals that the professionals must provide healing hospitals to patients owing to its necessity in the healthcare profession. The term healing hospital could be elucidated as a hospital environment promotes both healing and curing of patients. It is imperative to highlight that the above definition is incomplete devoid of the inclusion elements that promote healing environments. Critical to the discussion is the fact that such elements are connected to spiritually because the human population believes in religion. Nonetheless, creating a healing environment is associated with challenges such as costs and cultural beliefs. It follows that this paper uses a biblical aspect to describe components of a healing hospital and the challenges associated with creating such a hospital.
According to Ananth (2009), cultivating healing associations is a major component of a healing hospital. As evidence, the author further argues that healing relationships not only benefit patients, but also benefit healthcare providers. For instance, healing relationships between patients and clinicians could improve the health of patients by instilling trust and hope in patients. In fact, the bible stresses the need for holding onto hope as a remedy to illness because the book of Romans 12:12 (New International Version) reads "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer." It is also notable that Ananth (2009) cites a different study that reveals healthy relationships between patients and clinicians result in decreased mortality, decreased morbidity, increased adherence to treatment, and improved health status among patients. Ultimately, increased healing relationships between patients and clinicians increases job satisfaction among clinicians, which in turn improves their productivity. Therefore, cultivating healing relationships is a major component of a healing hospital.
Behavioral aspects are also another component of a healing hospital because it promotes wholeness among patients (Dossey, Keegan, and American Holistic Nurses' Association, 2009). Critical to the discussions is the fact that the component under discussion is characterized by elements such as physical exercise, diet choices, leisure, relaxation, and addictive behaviors. It follows that hospitals should promote lifestyle and behavioral training programs that prevent or treat illness and support the wellbeing of patients.
