Health Promotion in Minority Populations Description of the Ethnic Minority Group             American Indians are a marginalized community in the United States. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (2017) indicates that this group is a significant health equity consideration population in the nation due to its identifying factors. Estimates indicate that these native Americans have a population of approximately 5.4 million, constituting 2% of the United States’ overall population (The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2017). Further statistics from the federal government acknowledge the existence of about 567 tribes. Of all the people identified as Native Americans, over 78% reside outside geographical areas traditionally considered Native American localities. The concern for this group arises from being significantly disadvantaged with notable health disparities compared to other racial groups in the nation.             Evidence indicates that the current health status of this group is concerning despite having a legal right to be offered health care services by the federal government. For instance, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (2017) states that 13.2% of this population confess to having poor to fair health, while only 9.8% of the American people have similar challenges. Additional statistics reveal that Native Americans’ mortality rate is 50% more than the rate for the white population. Its infant mortality rate exceeds whites by 1.5 times (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2017). The concerning aspect is that this group has a higher disease burden than other racial groups. For example, their chances of developing diabetes are two times more than the whites, while their probability of succumbing to heart diseases is 1.21 times more (The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2017). These disparities are directly related to their race and ethnicity, which exposes them to disadvantaging conditions that worsen their health status outcomes. What Are the Health Disparities for Native Americans?             Native Americans or American Indians are more disadvantaged than other racial groups in America. Trends indicate that they have a significantly lower life quality and life expectancy and remain disproportionately more affected by diverse lifestyle conditions than other Americans (Adakai et al., 2018). Some of the concerning aspects reported by Carron (2020) reveal that they have the worst health disparities in the nation. For instance, in 2017, accidents in this population triggered about 11.6% of deaths, while only 6.0% occurred in the total American population. Other statistics reveal a 5.8% mortality rate linked to diabetes among the Native Americans,...
