The Global Food Security Initiative (GFSI) ensures food safety for all consumers. The initiative looks into setting up food safety systems that aid in the long-term goal of ensuring food safety for all (SFA, 2020). Generally, GFSI takes charge and approves food safety audits. On the other hand, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) aims at preventing foodborne illnesses, a shift from focusing on responding to foodborne illnesses (FDA, 2022). GFSI and FSMA are needed since they ensure that standards are met during the audit and maintained throughout normal operations. The food industry can have a GFSI certification in an FSMA environment, which places it in an advantageous position of credibility and safety assurance. According to Surareungchai et al. (2022), GFSI is mainly on the business side, ensuring that certification is well put, whereas FSMA takes up preventative action to prevent food contamination.
