Many legislative tools have been used to shape American healthcare services and also safeguard the well-being of nurses and patients. The tools range from amendment bills by the legislators to flexibility in insurance policies to meet the market demands in America. It is prudent to appreciate that the cost of the provision of health care affects the performance of children in school, the performance of workers in firms, the total government budget, and the demographic information of Americans. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate The American Reform Act of 2017. The authorities introduced this healthcare reform five years ago to ensure accessibility and equity of the affordable healthcare system in America.
Recent Federal Regulation that Shaped the Healthcare Services
There has been the continuous shaping of the healthcare landscape through amendment bills and restructuring marketplace policies. All these have been to suit the dynamic healthcare need of many Americans due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for secure telehealth platforms that ensure data security and safety of healthcare information. The American Reform Act of 2017 repealed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Healthcare Provisions of the Health care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (BD & Mbah, 2020). The bill was meant to safeguard Americans with high-risk insurance pools requiring the department of health and human services to provide necessary finances to the affected states.
The bill faced opposition from the American Nurses Association (ANA) since its inception. According to ANA, the bill would jeopardize not only the health of Americans but also the delivery of quality healthcare (American Nurses Association, 2017). The nurses faulted the House of Representatives for ignoring their voice and that of the other citizens who had pre-existing conditions when the House passed the Act. The nurses alleged that citizens with pre-existing conditions would not be protected from insurance discrimination. Due to this fear, the nurses urged the Senate to accept feedback about the reforms from the public. Furthermore, the nurses continued asking the Senate to decline the American Reform Act and promised they would start working together to safeguard and enhance quality and affordable healthcare access.
Effect of Quality Measures on Patient Outcome
Measures have been implemented to ensure enhanced accessibility, equity among different social classes and states, and affordability for middle and low-income earners. Some measures in place achieve access and equity complementarily in different states, while in others, conflicts arise, making it vital for more advanced measures. For instance, expanding access causes a crucial challenge to the affordability of healthcare services. According to Blumenthal et al.
