Explain what is meant by the following statement: ANCOVA offers post hoc statistical control. Provide an example.
Similar to ANOVA, the ANCOVA compares the group means to determine whether the differences are real or spurious, while allowing the researcher to control for the confounding variables (Polit & Beck, 2010). The post hoc statistical control refers to the measures undertaken with the aim of controlling the error rate in experiments. ANCOVA equalizes the experimental and comparison groups to ensure that there is internal validity. In the cashew that there are extraneous variables that distort the study results they are removed statistically using ANCOVA. Using the statistical analysis is then necessary to equate the uncontrolled variables in dissimilar groups after sampling.
