Ethics of Euthanasia
Ethical standards usually manage every profession. Like other professionals, the healthcare sector also has some ethical standards to adhere to. Even though there are instances where healthcare professionals follow ethical standards, there are other instances ethical dilemmas face them. One common dilemma that healthcare professionals have been facing in most instances is whether it is ethical for euthanasia which involves withholding or withdrawing some treatments for terminally ill patients (Gera et al., 2023). Some support that it is right since it will help the person overcome suffering. Others highlight that it could be ethical since it can help with organ donation (Sorensen et al., 2021). However, others oppose it, highlighting that human life should be respected. This is the main reason why it is important to research to find out whether euthanasia is ethical. The group's focus will be to check whether it would be ethical for a healthcare professional to perform a mercy killing for a patient who has been suffering for long and is willing to die.
Understanding euthanasia is likely to have an impact on the patient's outcome. For instance, if the issues of euthanasia continue becoming legal, there will be an increase in people dying due to this trend. For example, after countries such as Canada, Belgium, and Netherlands allowed euthanasia, the number of people who are dying as its results have greatly increased. For example, approximately 3.3% of the deaths in Canada in 2021 resulted from assisted killing (Buchholz, 2022). Furthermore, other states such as Hawaii, New Jersey, New Mexico, and Maine have legalized assisted suicide between 2018 and 2021. It is, therefore, critical to understand this issue.
To successfully conduct this research, it will be critical to have a PICOT since it would offer straightforward evidence.

Over the years, there have been more countries that are legalizing assisted dying.
