Reflection of the Ethics and Law in Dental Hygiene Class

              DHYG 450 Ethics Seminar 

Expectations of reflection:

  • What challenges did you face in completing this signature assignment? How did you address/troubleshoot them?

-          One challenge that I faced was getting a good time to meet with the dental hygienist that I was going to interview to ask her about what ethical dilemma she has ever faced. She was always busy so I had to catch her at a good time. I kept on contacting her in order to get the story from her .      YOU CAN ADD MORE TO THIS TO MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.

  • What were your successes in completing this assignment?

  • Describe your learning process throughout this course and what it felt like at different stages until you mastered certain skills associated with this signature assignment.

This class was pretty difficult for me because not only was it a lot of memorization but a lot of the words were pretty similar in definition. This class needs a lot of repition in order to get all the information down.

  • What learning and skills have you obtained from this signature assignment and how will you apply this to your practice as a dental hygienist? 

-          This signature assignment taught me how to identify an  ethical deliemma and how to go about it. When making an ethical decision we should go through a 6-step process. First start from identifying the ethical dilemma, 2 & 3 state the possible options that can be done and there pros and cons, 4 apply the ethical priniciples to each option, 5 state your decision, 5 implement your decision.

  • Discuss the skills you are still developing related to this signature assignment and your plan to continue your learning to ensure you remain knowledgeable and competent.

-          I plan on taking what I have learned in making ethical decisions with me when I go to private practice. This is very valuable and will always need to know in order to ethically make the right decisions.

-          This class helped me with actual clinic because when I am dealing with patients I know what is ethically wrong and what is ethically right.

Before I took this course I really didn’t know anything about ethics. I honestly didn’t even know that these laws and regulations existed for dental hygienist. However know I know  how to apply the ethical principle that have been thaught through out this term to the decisions that will be made in private practice. Before this class I did not know how to compose an ethical case but from this signature assignment I learned how to
