Introduction
Ideally, the implementation of the clinical decision support system (CDSS) in healthcare has made it possible for healthcare practitioners, particularly the nurses, to improve the quality of services they offer to their patients. Additionally, CDSS has played a significant role in promoting and enhancing the medical decisions made by the specialists based on the existing clinical knowledge, the information obtained from the patient, and other essential health information that would influence care delivery. Additionally, Functional Independence Measure (FIM) consists of eighteen tasks which practitioners including therapists and nurses are required to assess the degree of assistance needed by the patient after admission and would also be applied before the patient is discharged to evaluate the assistance needed by the patient to carry out daily activities. The literature determines the scope of the project, high-level deliverables, the completion, and success criteria.
Scope of the project
The project’s scope is to increase staff compliance rate on FIM charting through the established clinical decision support system. Ideally, it is essential to note that the data and information offered by practitioners from different departments in the healthcare organization may influence the decisions implemented regarding the care required by the patient and may also influence decisions about when the patient should be discharged. Ideally, when nurses and therapists comply with FIM charting, it becomes possible to provide reliable and accurate data about the patient’s performance in the various areas such as self-care, communication, and their functional abilities. (Torres, 2016). Therefore, the project is aimed at examining and evaluating means through which staff compliance can be promoted to ensure that they use a computerized patient record system (CPRS) to provide the data and information of their patients. The information provided by nurses and therapists would then be integrated and examined to determine the progress of the patient. The project will, therefore, focus on determining how the nurses’ compliance can be promoted and the factors that may influence the rate of FIM charting among the professionals.
What is out of scope for the project
Ideally, it is essential to identify the limitation of the project by evaluating what will not be covered. This is crucial since it helps give the project a clear guideline by avoiding activities beyond the scope. For example, all activities about Functional Independence Measure (FIM) that are not related to staff compliance are out of range. In this regard, all activities associated with measuring and scoring in various groups and subgroups of the FIM outcome measurement tool are outside the project’s purpose. The project is only concerned with the factors that may influence the staff observance and conformity to reporting the status of their patients using the implemented tools.
