Introduction
Influential leaders motivate employees to be the best they can be in whatever they are doing. In nursing, the stakes are high for nurse leaders because the industry is currently facing unprecedented challenges such as financial pressure, workforce shortages, and uncertainty of the future of the healthcare sector. However, these challenges create an opportunity for nurse leaders to advocate for the profession desired state and improve patients’ care and outcome. This paper aims at discussing how nurse leaders serve as advocates for a healthy work environment and adequate resources, which lead to better patient outcome.
Adequate resources  
The current work environment in the healthcare industry is stressful because of the stiff competition regarding the available scarce resources. In this regard, a nurse leader sitting on procurement committees serves as an advocate by providing input on behalf of other nurses. In majority of the cases, the input usually relate to procuring adequate drugs and equipment. Furthermore, nurse leaders serve as advocates by protecting nursing resources when the budget and work processes are under scrutiny. Employees’ participation in the budgeting process enhances the comprehension of major challenges facing the healthcare industry (Tomajan, 2015). As a result, collaboration between nurse leaders and staff nurses is the most effective way of advocating and maintaining adequate resources in healthcare facilities.
