Nursing education is aimed at teaching health care people on essential methods to deliver health care to patients. It equips nurses with knowledge on how to give and prescribe different types of medicine, ways of providing the best services to patients, and various methods of examining patients. It also aims at improving the nursing profession. The healthcare industry is increasingly becoming more and more complex by the day, a situation which calls for increased need for sophistication for the nursing team. Additionally, there is the need for the acquisition of the required skillsets and expertise to take in, so as to manage all these aspects. As a result, nursing education and the subsequent acquisition of additional knowledge is imperative for nurses, for them to be able to handle the current high standards that in turn yield better and quality patient outcomes.
Nursing education helps to reduce medical errors which have been found to have been causing several deaths over the years (Steven et al., 2014). Medical errors are not just as a result of mistakes, they can also be caused by an under-skilled nurse taking up an exercise that is beyond him or her in terms of the educational level and hence skills needed. As a result, education comes to the fore. It is also helps to promote more well-informed diagnosis, fosters results of higher transparency, and encourages supporting and engaging patients after discharge. All these ensure positive patient outcomes and satisfaction (You et al., 2013). There are various expectations for nurses, based on the level of educational qualifications they have. These expectations automatically tickle down to service provision and patient care as well.
