Health advocacy also encompasses creating activities that foster health and improving the accessibility of health care in communities and the public at large. Health advocacy aims to respect human dignity, to provide security to the rights and freedoms of the patients, equal treatment of all patients, and ensuring patient satisfaction. Health advocacy works under given principles for it to be effective. These principles include responsibility and accountability of actions in the workplace, clarification of objectives and purpose, equality in providing services, and then the health facility should be diverse.
Advocacy Strategies in Health Care
Several strategies can be followed so as achieve proper health advocacy in a health facility. These strategies will help to reach out to the patients and the public. The leader (a senior doctor) in healthcare facilities can develop strategies that aim to provide direct services to patients and improve health in public and enhance the accessibility of health care services to the public. The following strategies outlined and described below will help in achieving the goals of the health facility. First, it is essential to create a plan for achieving health advocacy (Jonikas et al., 2013). This plan shows and identifies specific problems in concern that need to be addressed. The plan should also outline clearly the goals of health advocacy. The plan also includes facts and statistics concerning advocacy in the health sector.
The other thing is that the leader should assess the health facility’s strengths and weaknesses towards achieving health advocacy (Cullerton et al., 2018). This helps the doctor to focus on areas to improve while maximizing the strengths of the facility. The leader can allocate resources to develop weak departments in the facility. This assessment helps the leader to know whether they are fully equipped and have the necessary resources to achieve the goals of health advocacy. The doctor should also strategize to invest in creating good relationships with the patients and the public (Servaes and Malikhao, 2010).
