The client that I have observed this week has a mood disorder. The disease is also known as mood affective disorder; it is basically a group of medical conditions in which changes in a person’s mood take place all of a sudden. When I tried to know the reason behind this problem, I got to know that the client has a pertinent history. His father was suffering from the same problem, and just like his dad, the client has been given mood-stabilizing medications in order to control hypomanic or manic episodes. The most common mood stabilizers are lithium (Lithobid), divalproex sodium (Depakote), valproic acid (Depakene), lamotrigine (Lamictal) and carbamazepine (Tegretol, Equetro, etc).
