Introduction
In recent years, the nursing field has continued to grown. Medical schools continue to churn out graduates who have filled up vacant positions in the field. However, with an increase with the workforce so is there an increase in the demand for these services. This has directly seen a shortage in the entire workforce as there population requiring medical services has grown over time. As a result, there is need for those in management and leadership of nursing fraternity to learn how to handle such issues that arise.
The nursing field is highly dynamic. As a result, many changes are experienced over a short time. However, the framework and infrastructure of the systems that have been put in place are in such a way that they do not easily accommodate change. The resulting effect is having a system in place that is not relevant to the changing times. This is one of the areas that I would seek to use my leadership skills to impact change. Through the leadership I have acquired over time, I would pioneer for an overhaul of the entire system. This is to ensure that the system is modified through restructuring to ensure accommodation of changes. No matter how elaborate a system may seem, if it is not in tandem with the changing times, then it is as good as non-existent. Through my leadership skills, I will seek to show those who are in the system on the need to bring about the changes. The suggested changes must not appear as though they have been forced down their throats. Instead, they must first understand the importance of the proposed changes. With the skills gained over time, nurses should also endeavour to also see a system that is fully functional one that that is multi-faceted to address the increasing health care needs. Every so often, there are new needs in the nursing field which keep arising. A rigid system as the one in place cannot accommodate such needs as it is programmed to only respond to certain needs. Part of the overhaul process therefore would be to come up with a system that will ensure that there are enough spaces left to accommodate arising and unpredictable changes in the system (Kelly, 2011).
Strengths
In terms of accountability, a nurse must endeavor to attain satisfactory levels, almost excellent. This is achieved over time through remaining accountable and responsible both in area of work as well as personal life. Responsibility has so much to do with understanding one’s duties and executing them in the right manner (Joelle, 2013). Throughout the career path of a nurse, proper organizational skills remain fundamental. This contributes directly to the continuous career growth which is strength in establishing firm foundations. This is a skill that goes a long way in cementing growth for the career of a nurse.
The Code of Ethics that governs the nursing practice is clear on how a nurse is expected to conduct him/herself. There are parameters within which the behavior of a nurse, while in the course of duty should fall. Career planning, though not strictly defined, fal...
