1. On pages 29 and 31 of the 2011 edition of Critical Care (Chapter 3), Theresa Brown shares some of her thoughts and feelings concerning a patient’s, Mary’s, treatment.

a) What physical challenge (of the patient) did the medical team prioritize?

b) Using one of the five theories we are highlighting in the course, please explain the need to prioritize this challenge.

c) While she is an active participant in Mary’s care, Theresa is also learning. On page 30 (2011) and using one of the five theories we are highlighting in the course; please explain how she is learning.

2. On pages 17 through 19 (2011) of Critical Care, Theresa Brown shares some of her thoughts / feelings about a patient’s, Jim’s, needs and about her learning process.  

a) Please identify a passage (or passages) on page 19 that can be explained using Bandura’s Social Cognitive Learning Theory.  Explain how Bandura’s Theory applies.  

3. In the first three pages of chapter two in Critical Care (pages 13-15 of the 2011 edition), Theresa Brown shares some of her thoughts / feelings about a patient and about herself.  

a) Please identify a passage (or passages) on page 14 (2011) where Piaget’s Cognitive Theory can help us better understand Theresa Brown’s thought process.  Explain how Piaget’s Cognitive Theory applies.

b) Please identify a passage (or passages) on pages 14 and 15 of chapter two where Operant Conditioning Theory can help us explain the interactions of two (or three) individuals. Explain how Operant Conditioning Theory applies.  

4. On pages 17 through 19 (2011) of Critical Care, Theresa Brown shares some of her thoughts / feelings about a patient and about herself.  

a) Please identify a passage (or passages) in these pages that can be explained by using Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological theory.  Explain how Bronfenbrenner’s Theory applies.  

b) Please identify a passage (or passages) in these pages that can be explained by using Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory.  Explain how Maslow’s Theory can explain why the medical staff prioritized some of the patient’s needs over others.
