Summary
I chose an article posted on Aljazeera titled “Stigma, fears of quarantine hinder Kenya's COVID-19 fight.” The editorial highlights the problems likely to affect Kenya’s administration in its fight against Covid-19 (Soi, 2020). Approximately three months ago, President Kenyatta placed the country in a dusk to dawn lockdown in a bid to control the spread of the virus to other non-affected areas. However, this regulation disrupted the lives of most citizens, thus making it hard for the government to achieve its objective. Therefore, government officials tasked with the obligation of effecting this directive recommended that persons found outside during the curfew hours will undergo mandatory quarantine at their cost. Arguably, the notion of forced quarantine is likely to hinder Kenya’s chances of winning over the Covid-19 virus. After reading the Center for Disease and Control, it is evident that Covid-19 has a higher attack rate on persons aged between 19 and 64. In March, three members of the church of Arkansas died because of the virus, while there was a report of 26 more victims in the community (James et al., 2020, p. 633).
