Valvular Disorders
Valvular disorders arise upon damage or illness in any valve situated inside the heart. The valves work by closing and opening to control blood flow into and out of the heart. When the valves are healthy, they can open and close as the heart beats. However, they might not open and close as expected when they are abnormal or ill (Fleury & Clavel, 2021). Regurgitation occurs when the valves fail to operate optimally, leading to insufficient blood flow around the body. 2.5% of the United States (US) population suffers from valvular disorders (Coffey et al., 2021). The essay will look at the disease causes, symptoms, and risk factors.
Causes of valvular disorders include genetic factors, infections, conditions that cause degeneration with old age, and other heart diseases (Perpetua & Levin, 2021). Other heart diseases include atherosclerosis, hypertension, myocardial infarction, and heart failure.
