According to Jennifer Berton, a community comprises the profession, neighborhood, group, agency, and other groups, and every member must protect it and facilitate its survival (Berton, 2014). One way to strengthen the profession and safeguard the community is by maintaining a health counseling relationship and a positive therapeutic alliance between the client and physician.
Developing a successful alliance between the client and healthcare provider enables the former to perceive the relationship as therapeutic and crucial regardless of treatment intervention. In particular, providing proper education and awareness to the community is the most significant thing to overcome the drug or alcohol addiction problem (Best et al., 2016). Therapists can bolster their profession by educating the community about the adverse consequences of misusing drugs. That way, the community would become empowered and self-determined to avoid alcohol and other drugs.
