The Clinical Presentations of Psychosis and agitation in Clients with Dementia
Patients with dementia commonly experience psychosis and agitation, with different clinical presentations that can assist physicians or medical specialists in diagnosing and treating. First and foremost, psychosis is among the most complex and severe presentations. Most importantly, it encompasses delusions that refer to false beliefs, which generally include misunderstanding experiences or perceptions. These include a misunderstanding that a partner is having an affair and one's items being stolen (Ravichandran et al., 2021). It also encompasses hallucinations, which are false discernments like smelling, sensing, tasting, seeing, etc. Secondly, agitation is linked to various symptoms and features that help in clinical presentations. For example, the patient or health client typically experiences hallmark characteristics like irritability, motor restlessness, intensified stimuli responsivity, and inappropriate verbal activity. For instance, sertraline helps assure substantial improvement regarding agitation-related conditions such as irritability and aggression. On the other hand, carbamazepine, divalproex sodium, and placebo are typical mood stabilizers that can treat agitation in dementia clients. Remarkably, they contribute to substantial improvements. Other agitation agents proving helpful for dementia patients are cognitive enhancers, α- blockers, estrogen, dextromethorp...
