Akron Children’s Hospital is a community hospital based in Ohio. It was established in 1890 as a daycare unit before extending its roles in pediatric health care. Their primary aim was to provide health care and treatment to all people, especially the children between 2 to 14 years (Lee et al., 2018). The institution made several promises, which were accomplished by 2010 when it was declared the largest pediatric health center in Ohio. The majority of its wishes have come to life through the countless medical advances and child happiness programs (Lee et al., 2018). Having been part of the healthcare team in Akron, I have, for sure, witnessed the top-notch services delivered. Every child that is presented in the Pediatric is always examined from head to toe. Akron Children’s Hospital aims to substantially reduce the burden of asthma for their patients and families with asthmatic medical history by implementing patient care guidelines and communal benefit practices.
Akron hospital has several departments, including the accident and emergency department, the Human resource department, the drugs and procurement department, and the communications department. The ICU and emergency department is still lacking in equipment and handling personnel (Grover & Lee, 2018). The ICU of Akron hospital has few critical care specialists and equipment than the number of emergencies it receives daily. The institution is larger compared to the number of inpatients received daily. The emergency team also needs to be a bit faster when attending to patients with chronic health conditions. It is essential to look into the needs of a pediatric ICU because every emergency department acts as the final saver for many lives (Grover & Lee, 2018). In PICU, the patients have severe conditions that could cause death or permanent injuries if left unattended. Lack of adequate infrastructure in Akron limits proper care to pediatric patients.
The organization can increase the positive outcomes of children sent to the emergency units. Providing quality emergency care services to the children requires good infrastructure designed to accommodate and support pediatric patients’ care (Hillstrom & Mills, 2018). The department should look into the matter by consulting the procurement office on the necessary steps to improve their service delivery. Addressing this basic need is an essential step in uplifting service delivery in pediatric clinics. With the advancement in technology, the knowledge and quality of healthcare are also expected to increases. Thus, pediatric clinics should be ready to extend beyond just having the right-sized space and protecting pediatric patients from EMS hazards and the risks involved in the emergency department.
