Summary of Proposed Project
Brief Summary
Mental illness is a multifaceted social and personal problem. The proposed project aims to determine the impact of mental health sensitization and awareness among young patients (ages 18 to 30) with mental illness on improving their reported cases of psychological illness. The clinical question in PICOT format is: Does an emphasis on mental health education among adults aged between 18 and 30 compared to non-sensitization lead to improved mental well-being over a one-month timeframe? The significance of the proposed project is anchored on the need to control the spread of mental illness among the youths. Despite the several interventions fronted, mental health sensitization and awareness constitutes an effective strategy to mitigate the health problem. For example, the literature indicates that mental health education anchored on eliminating stigma against mentally ill youths is attributed to a lower incidence of mental illness among the target population (Devkota et al., 2021). It is expected that mental illness sensitization would reduce reported mental illness cases among the target population. The proposed project will improve the quality of care provided by nurses as they will use evidence-based causes of mental illness to inform treatment approaches. In addition, the project coincides with patient-centered care as it seeks to understand the spiritual facet of the problem to ensure patients receive individualized treatment and care. There are significant financial considerations related to this capstone project, as discussed below. Notably, these costs are susceptible to change over time due to unexpected parameters during project implementation.
