When it comes to the provision of quality and accessible healthcare, then Banner Healthcare belongs among the leading healthcare providers in the U.S. Since the merging of Lutheran Health Systems and Samaritan Health Systems to form the Banner Health in 1999, the nonprofit organization has gone to build 29 hospitals and own several research institutions, including universities (Banner Health, 2017). With its headquarters located at Phoenix in Arizona, the organization has continued in following up to its vision of providing affordable healthcare and increase access to healthcare through having enough hospitals. This study assesses the readiness of the organization’s plans in health care provision to citizens and its strategic plans regarding growth, nursing staffing, resource management, and patient satisfaction.
Health Care Plan for the Next 10 Years
The most certain occurrence in future that will create a lot of pressure in healthcare systems, will be population increase in major cities and towns in the United States. In response to this, Banner Health sets aside most of its profits into building new hospitals and medical centers as a means of keeping up with the future increment in demand for health care. In 2016, the organization spent $1.9 billion dollars in 322 construction projects (Gonzales, 2016). These included hospitals, research centers and universities, which will aid in providing additional bed space and dissemination of information regarding evidence based practice in continuum care.
The organization’s plan to improve consumer experience saw its joint venture with Aetna to form a joint owned health plan company. The new move sought to integrate Banner’s state of the art facilities and good management with Aetna’s technology in health information, powerful analytics, and health plan experience (Banner Health, 2016). The program aimed at providing health coverage to employees and their employers in Pinal and Maricopa counties, with the future aim of rolling it out statewide. With this plan, Banner Health aims to combine health insurance fully integrated medical team and administrative services which would lead to increased savings, causing the consumers to incur lower premiums.
Additionally, the joint venture will see the linkage of Banner’s patient portal to Aetna’s secure site, allowing customers to view lab results, test results, and find information on providers, plan, view claim history, schedule appointments, and access to 24-hour phone line attended by a nurse, among others (Banner Health, 2016). The push to respond to needs of the consumers saw Banner Health acquire 32 urgent care centers in the state of Arizona, with the aim of increasing medical access to patients without going through the hospitals’ emergency department (Barkholz, 2016). The healthcare provider has also invested in customer payment systems to make it more hassle-free for patients to settle their bills.
