Experimental Study on the Health of Sleep Deprived People
Introduction
Partial or total sleep deprivation is perceived to have far-reaching and immediate effects that include the occurrences of depressive symptoms in close to 60% of the patients who present depressive disturbances. It is against this backdrop that therapeutic measures need to be provided and studied with the aim of establishing effective approaches to managing this problem. Sleep-deprived individuals are prone to health issues; a notion that is profoundly depicted in the findings of this study. This study aims to establish the manner in which sleep deprives the health of a person through the analysis of patients within a well-defined setting. The results of the survey prove that sleep deprivation leads to a plethora of health-related issues that affect individuals, thus necessitating the need for clinical decisions in the management of this problem.
Experimental Study on the Health of Sleep-Deprived People
According to Axelsson et al. (2010), the aim of this study remains in investigating the chances of unhealthiness, the loss of attraction and boredom among sleep deprived patients compared with those who have regular sleep. The study randomly engaged 23 respondents who were perceived to be healthy and sleep depressed people aged between 18 and 31. The participants in the study were photographed. On the other hand, the study selected close to 65 observers who had received no formal training, aged between 18 and 61 who engaged in the rating of the pictures. The participants in this study were therefore photo'd following their normalized sleep patterns that lasted for 8 hours. The next process also subjected the participants under sleep deprivation that lasted for 31 hours. The photographs were then presented randomly for ratings by the untrained observers. Given this, the findings of this study confirms this study’s findings by revealing that sleep deprived individuals often appear tired, unhealthy, and depressed as evident in their facial cues compared to individuals who have adequate time to rest. The finding of this study reveals that human beings are much sensitive to facial cues that result from the lack of sleep, an aspect that potentially implicates their social and behavioral judgments. This study indicates that sleep-deprived individuals tend to portray unhealthy behaviors and seem tired as evident in their facial cues compared to individuals who make use of their rest well. The findings indicate that there are several clinical and health implications that result from the lack of enough sleep.
Sleep according to Rotenberg (2013) remains an essential element in the health and development of young adults and adolescents to be successful in their work environments and school. Among the adolescents as established in this study, instances of insufficient sleep and irregular sleep patterns are associated with negative moods, daytime sleepiness, poor school performances, increased risks of unintentional injuries, increased intake of stimulants, and higher levels of risk taking actions and behaviors. According to this study...
