Introduction
Cancer is perhaps one of the deadliest and most dreaded diseases in the whole world. In the year 2017 alone, reports have shown that “15,270 children and adolescents ages 0 to 19 were diagnosed with cancer” in the United States, whereas 1,790 of them have perished due to the disease (Cancer.gov, 2018). This number is even higher for countries that have less efficient facilities for diagnosing the disease and applying the necessary care to mitigate its effects, thereby making this an even more pressing concern. In line with this, this article will try to examine the diseases in greater detail. The first section would focus on the diagnosis and the processes that healthcare providers use for staging the disease. After this, pertinent information about the disease and its treatment would be detailed. All in all, the author of this article believes that by having sufficient knowledge about the disease works, health professionals serving as frontlines against the disease could help in the mitigation of its fatal consequences.

Diagnosis
One of the reasons why many patients fail to undergo checkup on the onset of this disease is due to the sheer complexity of its symptoms. Its symptoms could even present themselves only at the latter stages of the disease, which means a lowered survival rate for the patient himself (Biswas, Ades, & Hamilton, 2015). Additionally, cancer can present itself in different types, and can quickly spread from one place of the body to the next, thereby making it more fatal as time passes by — nonetheless, some of the common symptoms of cancer unusual bleeding, unexpected weight loss, presence of lumps, and abnormal discharges, among others (eMedicineHealth.com, 2018). Once these symptoms are visible, an immediate checkup with the doctor is necessary in order to make sure that there is no presence of tumors, or that the disease is only in its early stages.
Staging
In its most general definition, staging a disease is the process of defining the “levels of biological severity for specific medical diseases, where severity is defined as the risk of organ failure or death” (Jefferson University, 2018). Consequently, staging of cancer is the process where a healthcare professional tries to determine the best course of action based on how much the disease has spread throughout the body. As for the convention, medical professionals and organizations around the world use the Roman numerals I to IV, to indicate the progression of the disease. Stage I indicates that the cancer is “relatively small and contained within the organ it started in” (CancerResearchUK.Org, n.d.). Stage II is when the tumor has already increased in size. Stage III denotes the spread of the disease into surrounding tissues, which makes it even more difficult to isolate and remove. Stage IV refers to the riskiest and most challenging to treat part of cancer where it has already widely spread in different organs of the body.
