Principles of Servant Leadership
Servant leadership was introduced in the management literature in the 1970s and it emphasizes certain moral and ethical behaviors of leaders. According to Cottey and McKimm (2019), a successful servant leader achieves results by attention to the needs of the people he or she serves. The principles of servant leadership have also been discussed in the literature. Vision is the principle associated with foresight, and it plays a critical role in developing the central roles of followers. Honesty, integrity, and trust are principles that focus on the professional standards set by the servant leader, and which allow the servant leader to establish and maintain healthy and trusting relationships with followers. Empathy, care, and compassion are valued principles depicting the ability of the servant leader to address the pressing needs of the followers. Lastly, stewardship is the principle that involves the servant leader taking care of the entire organization.

Intrinsic motivation is not dependent on external factors as opposed to extrinsic motivation. Additionally, intrinsic motivation is associated with the preponderance of human learning across the lifespan.

Target Population
The QI initiative targets personnel in the nursing department. Nurses comprise the largest department in terms of the personnel and their role is critical to the safety and overall wellbeing of the patients.
