Application of Statistics in Health Care
Statistical methods analyze information and segregate it according to ratio and probability to prove several hypotheses. In health, it incorporates empirical quantitative data and approximations associated with health and health systems. This includes mortality and morbidity rates, modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors, health care delivery systems and health services. The World Health Organization is responsible for compiling and publishing the information from these data. In turn, health institutions around the globe use these data for the betterment of the health care system in each country and to solve most, if not all, of the health issues. Countries use statistics and compare the data to international records to further evaluate the state of each community in a certain country. Also, the WHO also provides technical assistance to these countries to evaluate and monitor their health programs (World Health Organization, n.d.).
Application of Health Statistics to Improve the Quality of Care
Health Statistics helps provide high-quality care through health care utilization, needs assessment, resource allocation, and improvement of the quality of health care. Health care utilization involves the use of scientific methods for data gathering. Some variables that are being analyzed include age, gender or sex, ethnicity, and social and economic status. These are incorporated into the population’s needs assessment to meet the community’s expectations of health services and programs (Harrington et al, 2019). The data from statistics is also significant in minimizing the erroneous distribution of resources. All of the said factors are needed to significantly increase the quality of care in all areas CITATION Cro78 \l 1033 (Croner, 1978).
Safety
An example of a health issue that requires knowledge of health statistics is blood donation. A nationwide or even worldwide blood supply is a vital part of public health and safety. Many factors are considered to become an eligible blood donor including socio-demographic and health factors, balancing the supply and demand, and the risk-reduction program of incurring blood-borne diseases such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis (Gosbell et al, 2019. Statistics help in determining the positive or negative probability of all of the said factors. Also, statistics is used to assist public officials in preparing for possible actions combating health hazards and epidemics (Greinacher et al, 2016).
Health Promotion
The information from health statistics can help decrease the incidence of neglected diseases or disorders such as mental health problems. Before, mental health problems are less recognized due to the lack of studies and statistics that provide information on the number of people who have mental health issues. A systematic review of online youth health promotion has been studied by Clarke, Kuosmanen, & Barry (2015) revealed that there is a moderate to high attrition rate in online-based cognitive behavioral therapy.
Leadership
