Signature Assignment Reflection Paper
The signature assignment entailed the creation of a lesson and correctly educating the community on dental hygiene. Through the assignment, I was expected to train the community on effective dental hygiene strategies and equip them with skills to brush and clean their teeth. The lesson plan was intended for an adult learning center with developmental disabilities. No Limits learning center is specifically designed for adults living with diverse disabilities. In order to ensure that the intended objectives were addressed, we had to create a comprehensive presentation that lasted for about 1 hour. The presentation was done through zoom due to coronavirus restrictions. Students targeted for the presentation were twelve and were at the level of third-grade learning. Therefore, this was a unique opportunity to exercise my community education skills and engage directly with individuals who required guidance from a professional dental hygienist.
Through the signature assignment, I was able to attain numerous learning objectives. I had an opportunity to connect with clients who required the services of a dental hygienist. I learned practical approaches to handle clients and respond to their concerns in a professional way. The assignment was also essential in giving a hands-on experience regarding developing a community-based oral health project. Moreover, I was also able to conduct a community-based oral health project. This is essential because it offered me an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-life problems. It was also an opportunity to practice my skills and better connect with clients at different levels.
